HI folks,
I am a trainee as an SEO. I am working on a site called cowboys.com. It was blacklisted 1year ago same time that is this june last year.
Now all of a sudden it started to show up in google results on top 4.
I tried to verify with google sitemap account. Verifying for last 5months, 3 weeks ago my boss used his sitemap account and verified it with google by using META TAG. Which was't there when google started sitemaps. So I did't noticed. Anyway he got it verified and On 22nd it showed up in google directory and on may 25th it showed as top 5 and dissappeared and then again on 29th it offically indexed by google.
But when ever google indexed cowboys, I removed all the dead link that are shown as http errors in sitemap account the other day. Then next day the results showed up.
My question is this, is cowboys back into google listing coz google sentenced it for one year now its been an year now it is back again. Or is it becoz of META TAG verificaion or Coz i removed the dead links in the Google Cache.
What would be the exact reason. Can any one help with this

It's not really possible to know how long a ban or blacklist is for.
A while ago Matt Cutts stated that first offence is a 30 day ban increasing by a further 30 days each time. He was referring specifically to redirecting doorway pages at the time and I have never heard him (or anybody else at Google) give reference to any other banning policies.
I think a one year ban would be unlikely because it is often the fault of an unethical SEO rather than the site owner. So, if the site owner recognised that the ban was because of a cowboy SEO and employed a new one. Google would want the site back in its index quickly as they would not want to deprive the general public of an otherwise useful site. If however the site was spamming Viagra or something like that I would expect to see a lifetime ban of the domain.
My guess would be that an initial ban for say 30 days was issued and either the housekeeping you have carried out has helped or an off page factor such as paid links has been removed and lifted the filter.
I would be extremely surprised if simply using a G sitemap and verifying it would make any difference. Except of course that the sitemap control centre showed you some http errors and the like that needed cleaning up.
Hope this helps.
