    Hi

On each of my pages I have a menu bar which is designed using css and java script. For some reason when Google indexes certain pages on my web site they use the labels of the menu bar as the description. The web page is laid out as a three column and the menu bar floats horizontally across the top of the page

There is text in all three columns

If it's the site in your profile, then those are the title tags that you're seeing. In your case, you have your site set up to show that in the title tag.

Google's search results will show your title tag and then they'll typically show the meta description tag from that page if the keyword searched for is found in the meta description tag. If the page doesn't have a meta description tag and or meta description tag doesn't have the keyword searched for the Google search result will display the words around where the keyword is found.
