what is the impact of on site blogs when compared with off site blogs?

Does these affects search engine rankings?

What are the ideal things that one should look out when posting content on blogs?

Go on-site, if possible. Off-site is fine, but you'd rather the community built around your blog be exposed to your domain.

As well, you usually have more control over self-hosted solutions. Things like Blogger are simple to use, but limit access to key areas for SEO - like some meta tags.

Watch how you write the title of the blog itself - that can help - your blog will target one TOPIC, so name it something relevant.

Think carefully how you word the titles of articles (this is a different title than your meta title and blog title). The title of the article itself can help with that article ranking well for a given phrase.

Think carefully about how to name the categories you'll list articles under, too. They're a great form of internal cross-linking, basically. wink

Write concise articles - keep them on-topic and remember that you're writing to entertain readers too, not just for SEO purposes.

Don't forget to give credit when quoting a source, get the blog into a few of the blog-related directories and POST REGULARLY - like very day,...no twice a day...no, three times a day - get the drift?

It'll take time, but you can grow a blog over a few months and get articles and/or the blog itself ranked as well or better than your main website, faster.

If the blog is "on-site" it'll benefit if the main site is already indexed and ranked well - off-site blogs or stand alone blogs are seen as new websites and have to deal with a lot of the same waiting-game stuff any other website gets hit with when new.

Really good advice. I have yet to set up a blog for a client, although everybody wants one. Funny, when we get to the part about "You know, you'll have to put something in here pretty much every day" the whole show just stops. Go figure.

LOL - I was kinda bummed when I started mine - now I'm just addicted to posting...it tends to work like that.

    Hi elizabeth,

Here is answer to your question

Blog is an simple web site or part of web site where you can quickly post your thoughts, share views, intract with different users and more.

When a blog is created on ones own website it is said to be 'on site blog' and when we run these blogs on some other website which is owned by somebody else it is said to be 'off site blog'

A blog postings can be hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly or month. Blog postings are individual thoughts and views.

The blogs are good means of expressing your views about anything and it takes a personal communication approach to visitor.

On site & Off site blog both helps in getting backlinks. But if blog is on site then it helps alot. Blog contains fresh content & when your content is informative then it automatically helps in getting more backlinks.

While doing blog posting use targeted keywords in content, this will helps in getting high SERP.
