    Hi,

Thinking of moving a few optimised files from one folder to another. Will this mean they lose their rankings? Might Google think it's seeing duplicate content?

    Thanks,

    - Greg

this mean they lose their rankings?

Yes, most likely they will lose their rankings. When you move them to another folder you change the URL of the pages. I strongly recommend keeping the same URLs.

If you must move, then you need to set up a 301 Permanent Redirect from the old URLs to the new ones to redirect all the visitors--including the search engine bots--to the new location.

Just make sure you apply 301 redirects to them Greg. If you do that, you'll keep any past value.

Try not to change URL, but if you really have to then add the 301 redirect.
