Hi,

I've been checking links to a site I have where Google has been displaying all product pages as supplemental. I came across some really strange things that I don't know if they're having a negative effect on my site or not. They're obviously some sort of promotional trick on the part of an seo or ad agency, and I'm wondering if they could have something to do with the problems my site is experiencing.

If you look at this site: url removed - I can see my domain name in the source but can't find it on the page. (This is a link I found doing a link search on Yahoo.) However, they're using my site's title tags and either bits of my content or my meta description and my url (also in the source, but not viewable on the page) with someone else's url that they're linking to. It's very strange.

Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Thanks!

that is a pure spam site, have you seen all the variations of words they have hidden away!? scary, I'd contact these people and ask that your link is removed before it affects you

Edit - oh yea, please can you remove the link to the site, last thing we want to do is promote them wink

I removed the link but how can anyone help if they can't see what I'm referring to? smile

Anyway, I'm concerned that I might have inadvertently exchanged links with the wrong site. How can I know?

I obviously didn't exchange links with this particular site, but I'm afraid that I might have exchanged links with some other site that looked legitimate, but is responsible for this.

Is this possible?

vg5518 - put any links to sites you wish to discuss in your profile as per our Terms of Service.

Also dont worry too much about who links to you - it is extremely unlikely this will do you any harm at all. BUT, be very careful who you link to - if in doubt, dont link. Ideally you would only link to sites that offer real value to your visitors and dont join link exchange programs.

Hi,

I added the spam site to my profile under "Comments". However, in looking at inbound links I noticed that the url's in profiles on this site are indexed, at least by Yahoo.

I don't think I've joined any "Link Exchange Program" other than I did a search for other sites that had a submit url link that somehow related to my site, and this is how I got reciprocal links, but I guess the new theory now is not to exchange links at all. This means buying links in the thousands of directories that have popped up over the last couple of years.

Every one of my product pages (except the one linked to from the home page) are still supplemental.

Edit: It looks like information added in the "Comments" section of my profile are not being displayed for some reason, so I added after the "homepage url" in my profile, but I don't really want to leave it there either ... doesn't look good in close proximity. :-
