Hi: I recently read an article where it was said are treated and INDEXED alike separate sites. This seems hard for me to believe. If true one could have one domain w/10 sub-domains all se indexed?
    Any truth to this?

You can have 100 or 1000+ subdomains all se indexed. Example: free hosting providers who offer subdomains.

I was at a seminar by google last week by google. I learned that using subdomains is not prefered that much by gogole instead use directory structure. Google prefers directory structure than sub domain.
Also google will consider subdomain as different than the original domain.
