Hi,

I've just started a directory on my site - and have added the same piece of copy (about 600 words) to about 100 different directory 'sub-category' pages - introducing the directory and inviting people to add themselves to that sub-category's page.

Will that be seen as duplicate content by search engines? All the pages are in the same site.

Thanks,

- Greg

Almost certainly. What else is there on the page?

They're all like this one:

www.domain.com/languedoc-directory/bars-cafes-pubs-and-clubs.php?&sub_cat=43&catid=6

A mix of the repeated static content and dynamic listings.

Thanks.

Those 600 words repeated will surely be seen as duplicated content. It can't be helping you at all.

Make something so that the meaning of the content will remain same but the order of the statements will get changed. For any duplicate content the considerable amount of text should be in straight link. If you could break that link you could save yourself.

Why would you not do the job properly and write relevent content that is unique to each sector.

You will only get back what you put in!!!

600 words of copy would take at most an hour to write and quite possible much less. You should work through the sectors one at a time over a period of weeks and ensure that each is truly unique in content, structure, tags and importantly get the navigation optimised to ensure quick indexing from a top level page.

400 words of unique copy is better than 1000 words of duplicate text.

Things are very different these days and as I said you only get back what you put in.
