So long as the actual content form both styles remains intact, you should be fine. if you post on the blog, make sure you transfer that content to a staic page later, and don't forget to 301 redirect the old URL to the new one.
Honestly, though, with the work involved, you may want to consider just putting up the blog and adding actual pages to the blog (as opposed to listing everything in posts).

If you're not keeping the blog updated with fresh content, it's pointless.
Just put up a basic html page with relevant deets - it'll do the same thing as aplaceholder.
Having the placeholder won't help any in the rankings, just so you know. Having the content up and associated with the domain will.
