    How do google treat 404 default error page ? Is it bad or OK ?

    Any time a 404 error page is shown, it's not right. it means something is missing.

    In some cases, it won't matter as it's just user or robots trying things to see if they exist.

    If, however, you had a page up, then removed it, and Google etc. comes back to it, well, that's not positive.

    If you move something, use a 301 redirect. If you must show users a 404 error page, build a custom one with some links to other areas of your website to at least try to offer them a reason to stick around.

    In the end, Google will remove pages from the index if it continues to see a 404 error at a URL it has indexed.

    They treat it as a URL that never existed if it is a typo on the other site, or as a page that is now gone if the URL used to work but now does not. The first type doesn't make it into the index. The second type is dropped out of the index after some time, often spending a year as a Supplemental Result for a year on the way out of the index.
