Let's say you have a site linking to a specific page on your site and you want to check to find out if Google has picked it up - can you? I have some sites linking to a certain page, and in 6 months I can't prove via Google that they exist, even with automated tools.

The pages with the links are indexed and there are no "nofollows" added to the links. I also can't find a way to verify the links going to other sites.

Is it possible the site has been flagged at Google not to give the backlinks any Google "credit"?

Thanks,
Jeff

No, you cannot verify it. Google doesn't show all the backlinks they know about, so the link might show up and it might not.

Furthermore, just because they show it as a backlink doesn't mean that the site being linked-to is getting credit for that link.

The only thing you can do is wait to see if there are any rankings changes. If there are, then the link may be working, as your ranking changes could be due to other factors.

Wow - thanks for your quick reply!

You would think at least a few of the other links could be verified. Is it possible that a site is indexed at Google, but Google doesn't acknowledge its outbound links?

Yes, it's possible that a site is indexed and Google doesn't give credit for its outbound links--especially if that site is known for selling links.
