Hey all,
Question, if I have a .com address but want to be found under a country specific search - like australia. (.com.au) how can i tell google that my website is actually australian?
Id buy the .com.au accept google obviously doesnt believe in you pointing multiple domains at the same content.

I'd buy the .com.au immediately.
Google doesn't even come into the equation on that.
You need to protect your name (whatever it is).
Google gives guidelines for duplicate content and the best way to handle multiple domains etc. would seem to be to set up a 301 as a definative redirection.
I have many .com websites promoted and the basic guidelines would seem to be:
Have the website hosted within Australia OR
Be linked and associated with sites within Australia (neighbourhood base)
Make the main domain the .com.au with the previous .com redirected to it with a 301 and get all your marketing and links changed.
I've never seen a .com.au have trouble in doing business within the International arena.
Heck - it's the funniest thing to watch product manufactured in (for example) the USA getting ordered on a .com.au and being shipped to someone who could have gone down and purchased the item at their local corner store - for a cheaper price.
