Can any one help?
Have recently published a holiday cottage website and initially (for the first two weeks) it ranked in the top 20 for at least 6 of our targeted search phrases. Then, it completely dissappeared for all but the most obscure terms! Why?
Secondly, absolutely no images from this site appear on Google Image Search. What is wrong here? All my other sites with the exception of one fine art site, enjoy a healthy number of hits from this source.
thanks.

Hey surfing - welcome to the forums.
First off we'll tackle the issue of the disappearing rankings:
This is completely normal. You build the site, optimize it and are pleased to see your results - then suddenly you disappear.
Don't sweat it - every new site that Google finds, it allows to rank well for a few days, then the algorithm kicks in and suppresses the rankings for a while - like 9 months to a year.
This is done to allow the site to age - to ensure it's a "going concern" and not a quicky attempt at stealing some traffic from those sites already established. In short, age matters these days.
Second - the image issue.
Don't sweat this - it takes Google time to index the images, sort them, then rank and display them. It can take a few weeks or longer.
Not sure if the "sandboxing" effect will affect images being searched, but I suspect everything from a domain is affected by the aging factor.
Bottom line is this:
You're right on track - keep building up the site and adding unique content. After a while (9 months or so) you'll start to notice more traffic coming in from Google.
