    Hello Everbody,

As you know earlier reciprocal links had good impact on search engine ranking, yes obvious that we must take care of only quality link exchange. But in recent times even there are lot of speculation on this matter.

I have been working on SEO for many of sites and most of my site has link exchange pages. Few of them are ranking quite good even with old link exchange methods while few do not. So I analyzed few competitors and found there isn't any link exchange pages and they have hardly about 20 to 30 back links but still they rank very good.

After my analysis I thought of discontinuing link exchange method and delete entire links pages I have within the site. And concentrating on non reciprocal link and one way links from directory sources. I would be happy to hear your comments and suggestions on this matter.

    Awaiting expert comment
    With regards

There is not a problem with reciprocal links providing they are from a good source and are balanced with one way links and directory listings.

Some links are obviously better than others however in real terms a one way on topic link from a quality page is the best type of link.

In my opinion I would rather have a single link from a page with a pr of 4 with no other outbound links on it than a link from a pr6 page which has 30 links on it.

The subject of linking and what is best is too complex to spend your time worrying about it, just keep on accruing good inbound links if they are from ontopic sites then thats better.

Lastly remember that toolbar PR is not to be used as a measure of a good page maybe just a guide to make you feel better. If you want to do the job properly be more concerned about what else is on the page and what else is linking to that page.

Hello, Thanks for your comments. I agree with you about quality links and keeping reciprocal links as well. But we have been practicing this ethically adding only quality links, as per our records we have about 30+ quality links but google has indexed only 6. Now how can we know what type of links google likes?

Regarding "Hey, I am a very new webmaster having only one website. This discussion confuses me as I was thinking to add a links page on my site to improve my pr. Now I am confused whether to ge for it or not? "

Yes you can go ahead with links but as said by galway, look into more one way links and directory listings.
