I have an .htaccess file in which I created a 301 re-direct. Now, when I try to 'Open Web' in Microsoft FrontPage, I get the message that the FrontPage Extensions are not installed...so I install them...then the .htaccess file that I created to do my 301 redirect disappears, so I add my re-direct to the .htaccess file that got created when I installed the FrontPage extensions and when I try to 'Open Web' with FrontPage, it says the extensions are not installed!

Is there anyway to use my own .htaccess file with FP, or at least somehow add my 301 re-direct to FP's .htaccess file while still allowing me to use FP?

After installing FP, open the .htaccess file using web based File Manager located in your hosting control Panel. Then copy paste/ type your redirect code there. Else just use redirect tool from your control panel.

First, check to see what type of server you're on. If your site is on a unix server then you can use .htaccess. If you're on a Windows server then there is no .htaccess file.

If your FrontPage extensions aren't installed, you can still use Frontpage. You'll just have to save the pages locally on your hard drive and then FTP them to your site. You'll need to then edit the .htaccess file with notepad or another text editor.

If you have installed redirects there are some changes that you need to make in the .htaccess files of several folders too.

Google for a tutorial. There are several out there.
