Hi,

I am a SEO looking after new b2b portal launched few months back. My concern is that the crawling rate was going perfectly fine every week(around 500-800 pages were crawled in every two days) but i have noticed that since last two weeks its been decreasing like anything. The count got reduced from 11000 to 9600 in last two weeks.

We are already performing link building process which include submissions in directory and search engines. But all of a sudden the count is decreasing drastically and i am unable to get to the exact cause of this decline...I need to know if i am lacking somewhere or may i need a new strategy to get my website back on track.

Thanks
arienking

could be many things

but I suggest you do not submit to search engines, that can work against you. You were already indexed, and the ones you weren't in will spider you from the search engines you are in. do not submit to the SE's

directories are OK, but the more relevant to your site, the more they will help. a junk directory can hurt you though. pre-qualify the neighborhood

have you made changes to your site, new pages, new navigation, changes to your tags, sitemap, or robots txt

have you added content to your site on a regular basis, that usually helps to keep the spiders coming back, if after a long period of time with no content updates, they will check your site less often

you said you were in a link building process, stay away from reciprical links and link farms
