    One of the best collections of urban myths I've seen in a while; "Google bowling" was always overrated; only sites already carrying out suspect practices could ever be open to it.

    Most of the others are rubbish or just plain stupid. 'faux copyright claim' could be rapidly reversed, and land you in court on a perjury charge; not a rational choice for an SEO, whatever colour hat he chooses to wear.

    The only safe and effective way to 'negative SEO' is tattletaling. It's almost 100% effective, and risk-free - and it does a favour to every other web user.

    But there's a big IF - it only works if your competitor is doing something worth tattletaling about.

    And, of course, if you try the other negative 'tricks', your rival may tattletale you. Poetic justice?
