Im on page one for a HUGE keyword phrase in my industry on http://www.google.co.in but not on standard google.com. Do you think it will translate to google.com soon if ever?

The rules are very different; your site's local hosting and / or local domain name give you a positive advantage in the local search - but the dot com is wide open, so the competition is much, much tougher.

No reason why you shouldn't do as well as anyone else, in the long term - and doing well in the local search is a step in the right direction.

But success is not automatic; you have to make it happen.

thats odd considering my sites not an india specific site nor is anything about the hosting or site content even remotely related to india or india specific services.

    very weird

I didn't mention content, at all - though that may count in some ways.

.in marks your site as Indian; google.co.in searchers are more likely than .com searchers to want an Indian site.

Local hosting also suggests a site more likely to be of interest to local searchers.

It isn't odd; it's what 'local' means! smile

But if your focus is NOT local, then you just have to compete with the rest of us on the WWW - sadly, that's not weird, either! wink

So what's your theory on why Google has individual country searches, if not to feature sites from that country?

Supplementary question: what do you think "bizarre" means?

    wink

ok i dont think you are following LOL. Important points to note

    1. I do not offer services for India
    2) My site is not hosted in India
    3) the word India doesnt appear anywhere on any document on my entire server.
Question1: Why am I ranking so well on a local search when My site has absolutely nothing to do with India!!!??
Question2: Is there anybody else on this forum besides me quadrille and those 2 moderators? lol

Q.3 does your domain end .in? - if it does, then I already answered Question 1

If you want to compete on a world scale, you need .com

Without Indian hosting, your 'local' ranking will disappear overnight (without local content), and you'll then be competing 'mano a mano' with every other dot com.

I think you are missing the point; local search is for people who DO want local exposure for local reasons.

If you don't, well that's fine - but why complain when you probably get extra visitors out of it?

You may be the first person ever to complain about Good Ranking!

Answer to Question 2 - there's plenty of people reading this, but probably not a lot who understand complaints about Good ranking - and not a lot who have much to add to the initial response I made; it really isn't rocket science, and even I'm beginning to wonder why this thread is still alive!

There might be one more reason why your site is ranking so well in the "local" Google.co.in - You probably have a lot of incoming links from India centric sites.

BTW Quadrille - Nice expression - mano a mano smile

I'm still unsure why you are complaining?

I'm sure there's a perectly simple explanation - trouble is, no-one outside of the Googleplex will ever know smile

You could always write to Google and ask them to de-list you ... or use noindex wink
