Hi everybody.

I was recently doing great on google by having top 10 positions for my #1 keyword. It was doing great for a couple of months. During this time I actually had my website abandoned. Its a shopping site and during that time I was not selling, had no inventory. Once I realized I has this google position I of course decided to take advantage of it and work on the site.

Here is the background.

It was a 2 page website. Page 1st was the home page with all the information about the type of jewelry I was selling. The 2nd page was just a links page that has maybe 4 links in it.

Both this pages had a link to my Vendio store, here is where I actually had some inventory that I sold.

Thats it.

Once I realized my position I decided to work on the site. I found this forum and asked a few questions.... got some advice and started to work.

So this is what I did.

Let everything as is BUT I then installed my own shopping cart (oscommerce) and intead of linking to the vendio I know link to my own cart on a sub-folder.

Based on advice received here I did the following.

- made sure all my domain.com would become www.domain.com / I did this by editing the .htaccess file.

- I use a template system and made my own template to avoid duplicate content. I also added some common files to my robots.txt so they get ignored. Things like login - contact us - privacy etc....

- I use search engine friendly urls.

- I added a header tags contributions and for the best of my knowledge most of not all pages have a different header tags.

- Finally I started to add my website to other directories. Unfortunately I have only been able to add very few, they do have page rank which I guess is good and they are all related to jewelry like me. If I do a google link:www.domain.com only 2 -3 show up even though I have more.

And thats it. The problem is I now ended up on page 2 of google results from page 1. I was normally between 7 - 10 position so I was hoping to go up but instead ended up on 11 - 12.

With all this said I was just hoping you's could visit my website and give me more tips on how to get back up and to better improve my website.

you can check my link by going to my profile this way I do not break any rules here.

p.s. I was hoping to actually put the shopping cart on the first page.. home page but I was afraid this will really be a bad choice so that is why you have to go one more click to enter catalog.

thanks very much.
tom

At a first glance, ranking fluctuations are normal. You should set up a Google account and "claim your site" there in the Webmasters console. They give you substantial details - about what they perceive as your back links and so many other things.
