Is Google still using the Description Meta tag for the listings?

Yes. It is often used to generate the search snippet.

I personally find it to be important for our rankings.

I agree, i have always used one and found it useful. I am just finding on my new site that although we have the description tag, google is using page content. Anyone have any ideas on that?
Thanks

Google chooses on it's own. If it feels the description tag offers the best actual description of the content on the page, it might use it. If they feel the content on the page is more relevant, it'll grab a snippet form the page itself.

There is little you can do to influence it, so I'd consider it covered - meaning you've done the right thing by paying attention to this detail and using it correctly. After that, it's kinda outta your hands as to what Google does... wink

I do just want to jump in here real quick, both as an introduction for my first post, (hello all) and a little more information about the Meta Description tag in Google's eye's. The Meta Description tag is used to create the snippets that appear below the title of the page that is showing up as a search result for a query. The Meta Description tag has no ability to improve your rankings, it only helps on the clickthrough to your site.

Have a good one.
