Hi,
My site was added to Google about 3 months ago, I have some knowledge with SEO and i changed some wording in my website content and a few other things to try and improve the ranking, this was changed about 1.5 months ago and my listing has still not been updated. Its still showing the old "description" on my website which is no longer there. Is there anyway to get the Googlebot to search my site again so it updates or do i just have to keep waiting?
A few other websites i used to have used to get updated within weeks but this one is taking forever
Kind Regards,
Scott

are you listed on dmoz? its possible that google is returning your dmoz listing description and not your actual page description.
you can get it to ignore the dmoz description if you really want using..
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP">
or just change your dmoz listing.

The "last crawl date" in Webmastertools is never correct. It never has been.
I have already fed that back to Google, but haven't seen a response yet.

No its not listed on DMOZ.
well it should be !! dmoz is one directory you should always list yourself on.
Whats the google cache date? and what does it say in your meta description for the cache? > The other possibility is that your coding is wrong and google isnt picking up on the new description.

Hi,
I dont have cache in my meta tag.
You can have a look at it here: www.superiorshine.com.au
Should there be anything added to this?
I have just made a robots.txt file and a sitemap for google.
I also just submitted it to DMOZ
Cheers,
Scott

yep sorry what i meant was that if you click on the 'cached' button below your listing in google, it gives you the page as google saw it on the day of the visit, along with a date of when it was done.
Your last cache date was 30th Dec 2007, yet you're right it is still showing the old meta description in the cache code (you can view source of the cache in the same way as you can a normal page, just ignore the google blurb at the top).
I have no idea why its still seeing the old page. The only thing i can suggest is to change a paragraph or two in the copy temporarily, wait until the next cached copy of your site, and then see if the changes have been picked up on. If they haven;t then theres something wrong.
PS a few days is normally enough for google to see the changes in your site and index them, it doesnt take weeks as most people think.

Google often keeps two copies of pages it spiders: the currect version it last spidered (which goes in the normal index and for which you see the cached copy too) and the previous version of the page (which they chuck into supplemental, and which you do not see the cache for).
On certain queries they may serve the results data from the supplemental index, rather than the normal index. That is when a page seems to "revert". I see this happen a lot. It generally isn't anything to worry about. Once Google has picked up the new page data it will appear for some search queries, but can take a while for the "old data" to fade away.

Hey,
Im still expereincing this problem. Google is indexing all the other pages but the index page it will not update.
Its now been well over a month and its not updated. I have modified the page like 4 times with different content and left it for a few week each time and its still showing the very original page
It updates the title when i change it but not the content.
Any ideas?

It's really a matter of waiting. I've heard of many people trying to 'force' Google to re-spider and update listings, but I never heard of a success.
As a rule, sites that add new pages often / regularly do get spidered more often; and uploading an updated sitemap may help to 're-educate' Google to your new policy.
Most techniques seem to involve tweaking titles, H1 etc., and usually have zero effect - except, in some cases, a hefty does of sick site syndrome.

Is it possible that Google is listing your index page as "/index.html" and as "/" and the one that you are NOT looking at is the one they are updating?
