Several of my sites have PR of four with fewer than 10 incoming links.

Maybe SEOchat is the ultimate proof that links require Quality not Quantity!

yep its up to the quality of the link and SEOchat is on top for 'search engine optimization' so why bother to get a higher PR

    "SEOchat is on top"

Not in my Google it ain't!
And even if they were, you wonder why (and how) they got (and bothered to get) so many links.

I'm guessing those links are not organic, but I'm willing to be proved wrong wink

Actually they've got nearly 800,000 back links.

The first two links I checked out are on pdfzone.com and microsoft-watch.com

These links look suspiciously like paid for links. They are at the very least links within duplicate content.

In view of this and with reference to the recent tweaks in the Google algo, they are lucky to have PR4.

dont forget the PR you see in your toolbar is not current with what the google algorithm is actually using. That is why most SEO experts say not to look at it.

Yes it's true. PR is not as important as people think. In fact I don't spend any time worrying about it, however, the anomoly between the amount of links and the PR is worth exploring in this case.

I agree, especially as it *supports* the case that obsessing over toolbar PR really isn't a useful occupation.

People think we make these things up ... but some of us just don't have the imagination. Well, I don't, anyway smile
