I often see website directories where I can get a link for about $20 - $40 on a good PR page or Category. My question is does it help in Google optimization as well ? Now I know folks would say look at the quality of the directory or wether it will bring that traffic. Fine. But how can tell about the quality of the directly or wether it will bring traffic to me just by looking at it ?

Never even think about submitting to a directory that asks for a reciprocal link.

The fact they ask tells you they don't have a clue, and the fact of linking back to them could be fatal.

Many so-called directories are no more than link farms, and carry exactly the same risk of being in a bad neighbourhood.

Additionally, Google has devalued links from many directories; so a link from a cr*p directory is no better (and possibly worse) than a link from any other cr*p site.

As always, these days, it's about Quality; your site deserves the best. Doesn't it? wink

If your still not sure, read this by Aaron Wall http://www.seobook.com/google-gives-article-directories-boot. A very good article about 'cheap' directories.
