When I check backward links according to Google of our site and the site of our competitors I see that there are backward links from sites with PR5 that are not shown and there are backward links from sites with PR1 and even PR0 that are shown. Is it an indicator of their importance i.e. if a backward link is not shown does it mean that it is not of big value?

Google searches NEVER show you all the sites that link to you.

Webmaster tools show more; Yahoo probably show most.

Thank you for the info but my question is: Do you think the backward links that are shown by google have bigger importance than those not shown?

No. That's not how it works.

You'll be shown a selection, which (so far anyone can tell) is random. It tells you nothing really useful at all.

And that's no accident, it's by design.

If the links are from a site with PR0, do they still count in the search engine results ranking ? I mean do you they help or they are useless ?

Don't get hung up on visible page rank, it's largely full of sound and fury, but signifying nothing much.

If the page rank is grey, that MAY be an indicator of a site that is not listed in google, which in turn MAY be a site that will never help yours, and MAY do harm if you'd linked back. But no certainties. And a site with PR=0 five months ago (showing now), may actually have PR=4. Or a ban.

Don't think page rank, think "Quality Links" - that's what Google looks for, and they are the ones that matter.

I have sites with fewer than ten incoming links that do much much better than sites I've seen with thousands. The quality approach is less work for greater payback.
