I had my server get hacked into a few days ago and my site was down for about 24hrs and now my site is not showing in Google. I had #3 ranking on all my major keywords and now the site is not showing up anywhere in the first few pages or beyond

    Any ideas?

what do you mean by ok... still showing on page 1 under the keywords "trucking schools", "truck driving schools", and "cdl schools"

It was #3 on all those terms

it'll come back on its own, in the same positions as before. Normally, a site being down wont make a difference at all...

If your server was hacked and the hacker had added links to the bad neighborhood, you will have to login to the Google webmaster control panel and make a request to include - stating the steps you had taken.

If on the other hand, your server returned some other status code - eg: 40x at the time of a crawl, the damage will last for more time - depending on the rate at which your site is crawled and the duration for which your site returned the wrong status code, amongst other factors.

google tends to ignore a one off error response from a server in my experience and the site continues to place as normal.. if it happens more than once then thats a different story.

Servers going down "briefly" is not unusual and search engines are perfectly aware of this. But the site must not be down for a prolonged period of time and the way the site goes down is equally important. If the site is unreachable for a brief period - say a few hours (if the server had crashed, network failure, power outage etc) the damage from the SERP perspective is not all that damaging compared with a server which returns a 404 error or some other default page -like that of Apache default page.

Common status codes some servers display:
    400 - Bad request
    403 - Forbidden
    500 - Internal Server Error
    502 - Overload

The above status codes will occur occasionally and hence will not cause much issue for the search engines.

It is rare for server configurations to fail in this fashion - but it does happen. This is where it is wiser to select the right host.
