I have a site which IS listed by Google, but when I search for link:www.mysite.com I get no results. The crazy think is that I know for a fact that at least 8 sites link to my site. All of these sites ARE listed by Google - in fact one of them is Yahoo. Any suggestions as to what is happening?

i'm not sure about the domain name complications but I think if a page doesn't have a PR (page rank) of 4 or more the links don't show up.(do you know about page rank?) you only have a page rank of 3

>>Both domains appear in Google, but both have no links to them.>>Do Google frown upon such practice? Not exactly "frown." They have an automated process for detecting "mirror" sites -- with the intent of combining the two listings (and their page ranks.) Anecdotal evidence suggests that it doesn't yet work very well -- and it is indeed a complex problem.

Page Rank has been discussed many times in the forum, so for a detailed description do a search for a thread with the term 'page rank' in but I'll try to summarise here.Page rank is Google's version of link popularity and is on a scale of 0-10. 10 means linked to the max (i.e Yahoo and other big sites with lots of incoming links), 0 means you are not linked to enough to receive a score of 1 or because of dodgy links you have been dropped to 0 for the month by Google. Sites with more incoming links receive more PR (page rank) but links from sites with already high PR give you a bigger boost. It is easier to jump from 1 to 2 PR than 7 to 8 because the higher you get, the more links you require to jump to the next level. To see what your PR is you need to download the toolbar from Google's home page. Once downloaded read the docs and it will tell you to use in advanced mode to view the page rank. Once you have done this you can mouse over the little PageRank button on the toolbar to see your (and any other site's) page rank.

You could try banning Google from either the butchers or the meats site by robots.txt
