Hi...I added an addon domain to our main domain. However, when I install Frontpage Extensions to the addon domain, it seems to de-activate the FP extensions on the MAIN domain. At that point I can't upload to the main domain, and the forms on the main domain website stop working (even more confusing, this occurs even though the webhosting Control Panel still shows "Installed" for FP extensions in the main domain.
If I then UN-install FP extensions from the ADDON domain, the FP extensions on the MAIN domain begin to work again.
Anyone know what's going on? And how I can get the FP extensions to work with BOTH domains?
Thanksya.

If you "add on" a domain you must make sure that it's redirecting to the main domain with a 301 Permanent Redirect. Otherwise, you'll end up with major problems, potentially getting both domains banned in the search engines.

Most often an add-on domain is just a sub-domain alias for a folder on your main site:
http://www.yoursite.com/somefolder/ == http://somefolder.yoursite.com/

bhartzer: do the problems you mention might happen include the problem that I'm trying to sort out (per my above post)?
In case I wasn't clear, the content on the addon domain is completely different than the main domain. The content of the two are not related at all.
g1smd: I don't fully grasp the terminology of these things, but I believe it's correct that it's a subdomain alias. However, the actual equation (I hope I'm typing this correctly) is: [link] == [link] The addon domain has it's name registered, and visitors will get to it (even though, from a webhosting perspective it's an "addon domain" just as they would do any "freestanding domain. I.e. by typing www.somefolder.com (where "somefolder" is the addon domains actual registered domain name).

Sorry, that post didn't work exactly as expected...
Where is shows "Link", I was trying to show the URL addresses.
Where you see a smiley face, I had typed a "close bracket"

lane99, I understand it now. As long as the two domains don't bring up the same content then you have nothing to worry about. When I originally responded to you I thought that you were pointing two domains to the same content (which is not what you're doing).
As for the FrontPage extensions not working, you really only need them installed once for the main domain. I understand that your addon domain is simply located in a folder within the main domain. I'm assuming that you did this because it was cheaper to do it that way.
If you're going to have two separate domains and you will want to use the Frontpage extensions for them both, then I wouldn't use a addon domain. I would simply get separate hosting for each domain/site and keep them totally separate from each other. Hosting is cheap nowadays, and this is one reason why you wouldn't want to have two domains set up like this. Obviously it would work just fine if you weren't using any of the FrontPage extensions functionality like forms. In any case, I wouldn't set it up as an addon domain like you're doing. It sounds like a real mess that could get even messier in the future.

Hi, bhartzer. Yes, it's cheaper is the reason. Because actually we have many domains (I just spoke of the "two" for simplicity). So, though webhosting is not too expensive for one or two sites. It does add up if we're talking about 100 sites.
Yes, you are correct...the other aspects of the webpages in the addon domain DO display themselves with no problem. It's just the the forms don't work.
And my understanding is that you CAN install the FP ext. directly onto the addon domain (for example, there is this provision within the Control Panel) and that they SHOULD work independently and without conflict of the FP ext. attributed to the main domain.
Well, that's the theory, though it is not working in practise at the moment (hence my original query). If I can't sort if out, we'll continue using the separate webhosting accounts as we are now. But I'd at least like the option to give it a try using addon domains (if it does lead to some unforseen messy complications- as you mentioned it might, and I agree with that- I'd just change back to separate accounts.
