I must have my head in the sand to have missed this so long...
auDA are calling on the public to help with feedback on consideration of allowing the .au space to be open for "Domain Monetisation"
Currently you can register a .com.au domain if you can prove a "close and substantial" connection with a domain name before registration. This is an improvement over the old rule that was in place - only could register a domain if it was derived directly from your business name.
The current rule of "close and substantial" in my view is already being abused by some and I think it is legit of auDA to call for feedback due to the demand.

auDA seeks public's opinion on domain monetisation...
All responses will be published, add your voice yay or nay and why.

OK.. so nobody cares? Oh well, I thought it was worth mentioning and even spent many hours on looking at and expanding my knowledge in this area.

bless you Excell, missed this before sounds pretty interesting, good for ISP's and people wanting to hit the aussy market but not for me
