I hope this is in the correct section - my apologies if it is not.
I just looked at all my web sites logs for the first time in a few months ( yeah I know BAD ME ! )
Any ways - when they are coming in to my sites, they are staying less then 30 SECONDS ! YIKES !
Over 60% of all the people are staying less then 30 seconds in all my web sites
My pages load fast - are not graphic intense and I have been told by other members ( here ) they are user friendly.
I don't use flash or anything "fancy"......
I looked up the searched for key words/phases and they ( the visitors ) are being brought in appropriately as to what they are searching for.
So what do I need to look for as to why they are staying such a short amount of time?
I need to "keep" them there longer - what do I look for to change this time factor?
Much Appreciated,
Beth

Is it obvious how to get to the next pages of content?
I was going to help you tidy up your site navigation once you have some free time again.

As a matter of interest, what is the average number of pages each unique visitor views?
This number should be in your stats somewhere.

0 !!!!!! 98% of them are not making it past the index.htm page and are gone in less then 30 seconds
The other 2% are viewing 1 - 2 pages are are staying about 1 - 2 minutes.
very upsetting..... thought it was all good "stuff" but they are not hanging around.
Each sites content has taken me years to research and add good content to - so I could give the visitors a reason to stay.

I know I am a bit late to join in this discussion. But don't go by the server log analytics software alone. May be you have enough content on each page that people stay long. Software determines the time people stay on each page by the time it takes for them to navigate inside. That may not be accurate for content rich pages. People tend to take their time reading through a long page.
Better indication would be to look for the occurrence of favicon.ico which means that people are bookmarking your pages. Unless your page contains something of value, they won't bother bookmarking it. Some sites typically have about less than 1 % of the visitors whilst some sites which offer something of unique value can have as high as 20%. Your mileage might vary of course.
