I have spent a lot of time online trying to find numbers re: When do people surf online. I can't find anything. I just want to see what days of the week do people spend the most time (either at work or at home) surfing around, shopping, general web browsing. What time of day? What's the slowest day online? Etc.
I know that I can look at PPC traffic and web analytics but I want to see a broader study - the web in general. Has anyone ever come across this info?

People are on your site 24 hours a day, simply because of time zones: basically when they are awake.

I'm looking mainly for stats on US traffic.

If I come across a study I'll let you know. In the meantime, when I look at statistics for most sites they're fairly similar. I'm sure there will be exceptions for certain types of sites, but for general information and shopping sites I see similar trends.
You can see a fairly typical example by going to the free tracker page. Scroll down near the bottom of the page to see graphs showing traffic by hours of the day and days of the week.
This data is over more than a three year period for a U.S. centric site with some International traffic. The long timeframe shown would smooth out anomalies caused by holidays, differences in links and differences caused by ads running or not running so it is likely to be very similar to that for most Internet sites in general.

I just noticed something significant in the data from that tracker. Referrer tracking 2 data indicates that MSN search has already surpassed traffic from Yahoo on that site.
I have been predicting that MSN search is going to be huge in both organic and PPC. I believe they will capture market share from all other players and since Google has the lion's share they will lose the greatest percentage to MSN.

That's great data. Thanks flyingrose. Exactly what I was looking for. It's interesting to see traffic peaking on Mondays and declining every day for the rest of the week and weekend. Thanks a ton for that info.

The specific pattern you mention also corresponds with sales trends in many accounts. Sales are often strongest late on Sunday and on Mondays and gradually decline through the week being weakest on Fridays and Saturdays.
That makes sense as people tend to spend less time online on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday during the day when they're more likely to be out shopping, running errands, or having fun.
One advertiser believes that people shop more online on Mondays when they did not find what they wanted in the stores on the weekend.

That data I provided the link for is generated by a free tracker. Anyone can put it on one page of their site and generate the same data. For those wanting to track every page they offer a paid version.
