I had a boyfriend that had a screaming 2yo - putting him in a crib and letting him scream as long as he wanted worked to stop that behavior.
First time he screamed until he was hoarse. I told him he could be a big boy and I'd get him out any time he wanted to stop, so when he stopped I got him out.
The next time I asked if he wanted to go in the crib. He only screamed for less than a minute. After that I asked if he wanted to go in the crib and he replied, "no, I'm a big boy" and he never did it again.
Later I found out why he was like that when his older and usually wonderfully behaved brother started whining for candy. I asked him why he was whining and he got this huge grin and said when he whined his Mommy gave him candy.
I explained that I didn't reward children for that kind of behavior - only good behavior - and he immediately stopped and went back to being a wonderful little boy.
