Isn't it interesting to see how we can morph these spam threads into some other monster?

Gotta have fun somehow...it's a dry old world without any Tell me about it. As part of SEF's welcoming committee, I would be out of a job .
To think spammers should be shun away by our beloved "undertakers" before the committee cordially welcomes them, patronizes them and leave them to ponder their next move is unthinkable.
Don't take away the little joy I have left in my life! Perish the thought!

Indeed they are and rightly so. I mean if spammers keep getting in the way of the TOS firing squad and eventually decide to die, who cleans up their corpses?
It's our way
At least somebody agrees with me

This probably won't be the last post in this thread, but I have to say it always stuns me when anyone tries to move the subject way beyond the limits of the scope. I mean, this is an SEO forum.
Not a spiritual/philosophical/political dumpster. SEO work is all about how your website rates when evaluated by computers who think your magnificent production on the Web is either a digital one or a zero - times whatever.
There's nothing "organic" about it. There is, however, a huge tendency to somehow "humanize" the SEs as if they plot, connive, collaborate, hate, love, fancy, scheme, obstruct, ostracize, slander ... It's as if these machines have gained some actual personality and identity.
Death, destruction and corpses have been around much longer than Google, this forum and anybody in it including me.
All I'm saying is that - even in an SEO Members Lounge - a conversation that drifts into completely absurd drivel should have (several) special icon(s) to distinguish the thread:
1. Identity Crisis
2. Obtuse and Reclusive
3. Young and Relentless
4. Menza wannabe
5. Witty but Boring
6. Language Impaired
7. asdf
8. Curmudgeon
9. Dill
10. Single Malt
11. eBay/Classmates/MySpace
12. Haitian Voodoo-Doll Victims
I've missed a few here and I don't have the graphic designs for them, but I am confident that other members of the SEO forum will find something appropriate on CDs they stored on the top shelf of the closet or under the bed.
This is really just a Spring Cleaning reminder.

Ooooh - I'm in for a Single Malt discussion!
...and the Lounge has contained many an off-topic banter. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this section has it's own "containment field" that ensures that - gimme a sec.....
When someone with an Identity Crisis embarks on an Obtuse and Reclusive rant, brought on by Young and Relentless, Menza wannabe thinking, we strive for Witty but Boring, Langauge Impaired, asdf-type responses.
Further, should said Curmudgeon bring Dill and Single Malt, we can source cooking utensils and recipes via eBay/Classmates/MySpace and ensure that all Haitian Voodoo-Doll Victims are compensated accordingly.
So, as you can plainly see, when properly optimized, even a strange paragraph like that can rank well...
...added that last bit to regain some semblance of SEO-ism...

Thank you all for providing me with some good afternoon entertainment. It's like a virtual family in here.
I have found that there are some folks in here that I trust and others that I take with a grain of salt. It is because of the folks that I trust, that I am better able to weed out the spammers and find good practices. The regulars and moderators in here do a good job of calling out BS so if you are trying to Spam then find another forum. Take note seo_tools - they don't miss a beat!

Thank you all for providing me with some good afternoon entertainment. Anytime
It's like a virtual family in here. That's our lounge. Doesn't come any cooler than SEF's. Believe me, I've checked

God, I hate the diction around here. It's as if everybody just stepped off a degree in Chat-Lang. But I ain't your third-grade English instructor.
What piques me is that most contributors really think they are 'Avant Guarde', up-to-speed, top-notch, leading-edge, elite, smart, competent and modern in all respects. It's like FormerSkeptic saying "...That's OUR lounge, dah...". So why spend time on profiling posters at all? Is it more fun than composing something significant? Probably so and much easier.
I don't care what you've "checked" because it represents - pretty much - your entire experience with the Web as you know it. It certainly doesn't represent your knowledge of the Internet, which is everything you'll never understand.
The whole idea of OWNERSHIP of the "cool" Members Lounge makes me think of it as a private club of protective, devoted fools that only think of it as a haven for their pointless rambling instead of something to do with SEO work.
Look, anyone can be strong and admirable and courageous and even fearful if you are only reading their words in this forum. They may have none of those virtues, but who cares?
The bottom line is that you're inadvertently putting off the sincere programmers and web developers in the (former states of) Russia and in India because you are very, very cool but mostly useless as a resource. Yeah, I know, you're not prejudiced. Of course not.
I agree with SportsGuy most of the time and have in the past, even though he doesn't know it. The others in here don't probabaly know that JKokos runs this thing and puts untold hours of his effort into publishing this.
So put your smiley-face on that. The point of this entire forum is to HELP PEOPLE. If you missed that, don't bother to post something cool, because - if you just want to vent - go over to MySpace where you can be as simple or sophisticated as you wish.

langardmicro, this section of the forum is just that: THE LOUNGE AREA. What do you do in the lounge? You talk about other stuff not necessarily related to SEO. The lounge is a social place for SEO's to let off some steam, get happy and so forth, not to necessarily display intellectual prowess. If people want to say "this place is cool", they can and should be able to do so. Why do you feel the need to criticize that? Isn't that quite a bit of nit-picking on your part?
Seems that you simply want to flame extracting from the mood of your post.
However, if you are upset that SEF doesn't allow self-promo, well, you'll need to take that up with John Cokos himself. Personally, I wouldn't mind allowing a short sig line or 2 for each member, but then that also presents extra work in policing certain types of URL references that perhaps the mods and admin don't want to take on so I can sorta understand why that's not allowed too. Besides that, I personally don't want to see a bunch of junky self-promo posts from every passers-by hoping to get some traffic. If that were allowed, you can imagine what would happen to this forum.
Most of us long-timers know about John Cokos so he's no mystery to us and we are aware of his programming genius and work.

Curt,
Thanks for your response, but you don't have to defend the significance of these forums to me. I've read your posts, unlike newbies who don't research your attitude, character or relevance.
I'm certainly not promoting the idea that you admit spammers. It's the attitude you express toward my own original post - and your willingness to participate in a wholesale fun demolition of it - that leaves me wondering if you are not, perhaps, misled by the moment rather than just offended.
Regardless, I'm probably wrong. Everybody should be able to talk about and enlighten us about - I suppose - every little political, economical, social, global, local, personal, candid ... Yes, you are right.
In which case the Members Forum would actually grow to a size that eclipses the rest of the SEO forum because it would become far too huge.
So it goes to PURPOSE, I guess. I'm not flaming anybody. If you don't keep these posts in some kind of relevant order with SUBSTANCE, they lose value, in both digital and human popularity.
If you think that the rest of the Forum categories here drive the SEs - and that this one is exempt - that's not the case.
I am absolutely, positively not recommending that you refrain from any kind of expression in the posts here. But the "Free Zone" idea doesn't work either as witnessed in a hundred other failed catch-all Bulletin Boards.
In an SEOs Member Lounge Forum, I expect to see accounts that are hilarious or amusing or distressing or tragic, but I couldn't care less about Members political, religious or social disposition BECAUSE IT IS SPAM, SPAM, SPAM - and seems to degrade the fine effort of those who devote thier valuable time to telling others how to go about being successful on the Web for no charge whatsoever.
But it's not my call. So Thanks.
