Hey langardmicro , that was worth at least a nickel and is what I was suggesting. On the internet anyone can promote themselves as a star and expert on any subject. I see the mods as doing just this. The forum needs people to lend their identities to the forum. But we also can't put it all on the mods.
Years ago, didn't Hillary Clinton say that it takes a community to raise a forum?

>>did we replace George Washington, Abe Lincoln
Er...actually yes.
George Washington was replaced by John Adams and Abraham Lincoln by Andrew Johnson.

What? Abe's dead? I didn't even know he was sick.
Sorry, that was just and involuntary, knee-jerk Paris Hilton imitation. On the other hand, if we could get, maybe Tom Cruse and Al Gore in here as Mods ... well then we'd know everything about anything to do with everything. Or if we convinced Janet Reno and Madelaine Albright to moderate the forums, everybody would be too scared to leave, let alone object.

sportsguyAdditionally, I make this request to users to be more active,
I 100% agree....
I think we have most of the itching and moaning out of our system now
SO now its time to for all of us to roll up our sleeves and do something.
I myself will make more of an effort to be active in the site review forum.
Anyone else willing to come forward? I dare ya lol

If I may add my uh...let see...(counting)....ah!.. $.10
The biggest problem we have here is not so much the mods not contributing enough, but the newbies/seo wannabes, asking recycled questions. I can understand the mods reluctance to sing the same ol' song, over and over again, "put your hands up in the air, and click on search like you just don't care".
To curb this problem, maybe a tiny search box should be placed just above the message form (for new posts only), with a little message encouraging new posters to search the database before posting anything new. This will certainly reduce the mods work load. Better yet, make the search box more visible at the top by placing it as a form rather than a link.
I remember the first time I wanted to search this site, took me a while to find the search box because naturally, by design, you'd expect it pasted somewhere on the page rather than as a link.

Good point, most people look for the little box when they want to do a site search.
Way back "when" I remember making a deal to "pay" for all this info, support and such by in turn doing the same for others here. Does anyone else remember that? I can't recall the specific term Jim called it.
I have not lived up to my end for awhile now..... but I and hopefully others will start to help out more.

formerskeptic, it's true that probably 90% of the questions asked in most these forums are either identical or redundant to several threads in the archives.
So I suggest the Mods get together and create a single new, anonymous, omnipotent Moderator named Paste-O-Matic, or whatever you like.
With a small, Reader's Digest Condensed Text Version of past responses to some of the most frequently asked questions from the archives, Paste-O-Matic (whoever they are that week) could respond to redundant newbie requests in, oh, about a minute and a half, no matter where they are in the forums, complete with Biblical-like links to threads...
Newbies would soon believe that Paste-O-Matic is really a sophisticated, intuitive robot designed to process their questions automatically and infuse them with wisdom.
Actually, I'd be the last person on the planet to criticize any fish who puts forth at least some small effort. Discouraging anyone's earnest effort is never my goal. Nevertheless, as you point out, the merely whimsical queries that fill these forums have to be treated for what they are.
So why not Paste-O-Matic 'em, says me.

Trouble is the site search engine is crap. I have set up a CSE to find info on this site.
A CSE should be used here too.

...because Paste-O-Matic would be a duplicate content creation machine...

Hello everybody - how are you doing?
...out-think, out-smart and "stealth" their way into top global positioning in five days. That'd be on 1,000 blogs in ten minutes, word-for-word.
I'm way too busy to Mod, so I sincerely respect those who take time to do so on a regular basis. It's harder than keeping a daily, personal log.
So what do you think it takes to get this SEO forum back on top? Tell you what I'll do: I'll publish the encrypted blueprints for making a tactical nuclear weapon in this forum tommorrow...And all it takes to decrypt it is Google's algorythm
Some interesting posts here... note: if someone could review and collect the suggestions into ONE concise document it would be fantastic!
My conclusion is that it isn't the medium and it isn't the mods and it isn't the newbies and it isn't the lack of leadership and it isn't the past - it's about working out what this community wants? ok.. you come here for a reason - what is that reason?
For me it is because I trust this space.

The concise four-part (condensed version) might be something like:
1. Identify the real issues (not the problem)
2. Develop a clear way of thinking (without prejudice)
3. Make a decision, and
4. Act upon it.
...which is a lot like the more contemporary version:
1. Fight
2. Have sex
3. Go for your guns, or
4. Get out of my way
While there are advantages to both, I vote for the first version to keep JimWorld segregated from the rest of those pointless, juvenile, drivel-ridden, avant-garde, fast-food, wannabe-pleasing, erroneous FORUMS -- whose audience still believes that designing web sites (and SEO work in general) is a lot like making a 1988 Japanese motorcycle attractive.

It is interesting that you should still call this place JimWorld.
