During the last week, I have noticed a major change on TV. On one cable station, I realized that they casually used the word "s**t". I was curious, but thought it was probably just OK for cable only stations. Last night on NYPD Blue I heard "bull s**t" and "a** hole". When did all of this change?

Does this mean we are now free to use these words here?

phew I thought you were going to say that the forum moderators where not doing their job.

As far as TV goes it's going from bad to worse and declining at a rapid rate.. my advice is to turn the darn fool thing off.

and NO.. just because the rest of the world is in decline it doesn't mean that our forum policy will be downgraded anytime soon. smile

NYPD has always done stuff like that, I remembered they showed someones butt on the show when it was still fairly new and they got a lot of buzz about it.

Some shows, like NYPD blue require language like that. That's the one show that has made great strides in being as "real" as it can be. Without the language, you get a dumbed-down version of that world.

NYPD blue is the exception though, i don't see/hear that language on any other show on regular TV. You'll hear A** every now and then, but not SH*T or A**HOLE .... those are reserved for TV Movies and shows like NYPD blue that have both a history and a disclaimer.

Frankly, as a complete TV junkie, I like it, and am glad that they're making it real, although that really should be a 10pm show, not a 9pm show.

Tune in to a soap opera someday between 11am and 2pm on a major network.

You'll hear every single one of those and more. The "F" word is the only one I've yet to hear on daytime TV. (LOL, not that I watch the stuff anymore, but it was always on in the lunchroom when I worked in an office...)

Soap operas eh? Hmmmmmmmmm, too bad that nit wit Scarborough on MSNBC didn't do his homework before last night's rant on the language in TV shows. Seems he doesn't care for the Simpson's and South Park, among other shows. Finds them too racy and inappropriate for TV.

I agree wit ya on that.

There are still reasonably decent shows on, just more trash added especially in the sitcom arena. There's no real reason to add the language and such. They can creatively get the thoughts across without it.

As for this forum, I hope it remains clean of the language 'cause it's not needed and sounds like low-life trash.

I like to think of these forums in teh same regards as a work meeting - I would not say "gd that sucks!" in a meeting with my boss, so why would I say it here?

LMAO, Pat. I shoulda used your rule-of-thumb when dealing with my various bosses. Last year I was doing some editing on a hockey magazine. When I first came in I was asked for an assesment of the magazine. I told the assembled masses that "It sucked" and needed a major overhaul. Jaws dropped, arms crossed, and I was not very popular around the joint. I was later vindicated when a circulation consultant was hired and came in and said exactly what I had said was wrong with the magazine. Didn't matter much though, the damage was done.

The wife and I often watch cooking and antique shows. No one is trying to kill anybody in those shows. Its a nice change of pace! Seldom is heard a discouraging word...
