Seeing T3 got me thinking...
Which movies have the best car chase scenes?
My picks:
Gone in 60 Seconds (original)
Ronin
T3

I say some of the best car chases where seen in the Robert DeNiro film "Ronin" - a top film.

Would that be original Italian Job or the 2003 remake?
Original Gone in 60 Seconds car chase lasted 45 minutes straight! You gotta love that!

I'll second Ronin...absolutely outstanding.
Though I must admit, I haven't seen the Italian Job yet, so I may change my mind.
If we're talking overall chase scenes... Ben Hur. :D

I always like the first Smokey and the Bandit. At least he stopped for gas occasionally. That beauty of Mustang in Gone in 60 Seconds must have had a 150 gallon gas tank! The gas pedal was stomped on for miles, then a nitrous oxide sprint to out-run a helicopter.

Bullitt, French Connection both tops.
Seven Ups - Roy Scheiderer, has a good one.

Point of order: as an Englishman, I don't recognise the existence of a 2003 remake of the Italian Job

The Italian Job (2003) box office gross $88 million. Smokey and the Bandit box office gross of $126.7 million. The people have spoken!

ronin: $41.6M
Titanic $600.7M
Obvioulsy the box office take is NOT an accurate judge of best car chase scenes!

What car chase scenes are in Titanic? That's like apples and oranges buddy! Both fruits but totally different.

And Smokey in the Bandit out performs Ronin! Go Smokey-Go Smokey! Ronin was a good flick. Skip Suddarth (AKA Sully, 3rd Watch) is a racing enthusiast. He did most of his driving stunts himself in Ronin.
The Captain of the Titanic was not a good driver at all.

I *think* Ronin, as well as 'The Transporter' were partially sponsored by BMW. Take a look at "www.bmwfilms.com". It makes perfect sense and is a brilliant marketing ploy - BMW gives $$$, movies use BMW's and the extra $$$ to make great car chase scenes... BMW gets huge, seemingly unadulterated exposure, the movie makers have extra $$$ to improve the adrenaline content of their movie, and the movie-goers love the chases - everyone wins.
People have been doing similar things for years (I belive the earliest example is a big KFC behind Sean Connery in an early Bond flick), but this is taking it up a few notches.
There is a name for this type of advertising but it escapes me now...
