Anyone hera of toshiba laptop screens breaking under the slightest of pressure?

MIne shattered when just two days old and the shop reckoin its unheard of so I must have been doing some serious abuse. As I hardly touched it I am a little distressed (and out of pocket!)

Anyone know of similar exerinces or data to illustarte that I'm not a crazed IT vandal?

Liam

no personal experience with Toshiba, but ya'd think that if the thing is only 2 days old they'd replace it... can't for the life of me think of why you'd purposely break a 2 day old computer and want and exchange.. maybe an older one.

I'd scream at the manager. Big time. Just because they never heard of it that doesn't make it impossible.

Did find this site http://www.laptopsforless.com/links/laptopscreens.htm that sells screen replacements. That might help.

I tried some basic searches to see if I could find anything on them breaking but couldn't.

Most laptop and PDA manufacturers do NOT warranty the screen at all.

They know that many people have accidents, which they should have insured against.

However, that said, the screens can have a weakness that means that a small knock can have a big impact. I have seen that on some Compaq and other PDAs (no idea about laptops, but their screen is ten times bigger).

my last company's toshiba laptops had LCD/(crystal) screens that were supposedly 'susceptible' to problems- couldn't leave them in the car in cold temps (because it would freeze and ruin the screen) and we were supposed to extra careful, because our IT person had seen excessive problems with them in the past. don't know if that helps.
