Ultimately my previous post was NOT self-promotion since the site I posted wasn't/isn't my own in the first place. If this is an educational community (Yes, I did read the TOS) then it should have read in to it and understood that my posts were relevant to the forum ("web directories" ) , and even was bringing up a relevant topic of link exchanges vs. using directories to gain links (not ONLY did I pass that idea out I even linked to a place with some relevant directories to get links from).
I was gone over the weekend and when I get back and check my email I find a few flames, a warning, and a notice that my threads were removed (you were polite about it though, and I appreciate that at least).
Just my thoughts.

Daniel Patrick wheren't you the one that posted the topic of "Directory of directories"?
First of all, you only posted one thread, not threads. You raved about a directory that no one knows about, in this forum and several others, and didn't miss to place a link to it. You subscribed to several forums and in all of them you made ONE post with a link to the best unknown directory ever!?
Then you go on to saying that the directory is not yours?
I don't know about anybody else, but you sure gotta have a good explanation for me to believe that this directory is not yours.
P.S. You don't have to shout. I can understand what you are saying whether you post it in CAPS or like every other normal human being.

Forums are a big target for drive-by spamming. People like to drop links in the vain attempt to build PageRank.
Any user that, on their very first post, starts a new topic thread, and talks about an external site is going to look like a spammer.
The moderators have no way to verify if that is your site or not; but, by starting a brand new thread, as the first post here, and then to talk about some site then that looks like promotion or self-promotion.
There is really only one way to deal with that; and sometimes some innocent people get caught in the cross-fire.
Welcome to the forums. I hope you can contribute some answers to questions that people raise.

Dabuek,
As pointed out by g1smd, while you may not agree that your post was self promotional that is the way it reads to others besides yourself.
Yes the forum is 'Directories' as in the discussion about directories. You did not answer or ask a question. You posted instead about link exchanges (a different topic) and about how you would prefer to get links to your site instead of exchanging links. Then you linked to a url that belongs to a marketing site listing other directories - a directory of directories if you will.
It is quite possible that your intent was not what it reads like to others but being a first post it doesn't read well.
stevenjm,
How can you comment? Did you see his post? Just because he says it's not self promotion that makes it true? Or are you just looking for something more to justify your complaint?
