After Sept. 11th, one company invited the remaining members of other companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space. At a morning meeting, the head of security told stories of why these people were alive... and all the stories were just: The 'L I T T L E' things.

As you might know, the head of the company got in late that day because his son started kindergarten. Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time. One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an auto accident. One of them missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change. One's car wouldn't start. One went back to answer the telephone. One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have. One couldn't get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone ... all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated; God is at work watching over you. May God continue to bless you with all those annoying little things and may you remember their possible purpose.

So ... tomorrow morning, if you do make it to work on time, and you do die a horrible death, please keep in mind, you are exactly where God wanted you ... wink

My wife and I had a long conversation yesterday about religion, what it means to be a Christian, etc. She was having a hard time understanding the things that she hears, like "God points me in the right direction", "It's God's plan for me", etc. It's hard for someone not of faith to grasp what it means to feel as though there is some greater power that's watching over you, loves you, and further what it means to have a real sense of trust and faith in that power.

This post comes, ironically, in a very timely fashion for our personal discussion here, and I think that is a good example of how to explain some of the unexplainable. Thanks YellowWing for sharing.

Can't remember the scripture off hand, but it goes something like this:

“Time and unforeseen occurances befall us all”

There are other supporting scriptures that basically say that God does not determine how or when we die. The bible does say that man may live for 70 or 80 years denoting again that the exact time limit is not written in stone or premeditated by God. Next time you think it was God's time, think again: “Time and unforeseen occurances befall us all.”

No way - everything happens for a reason.

In general things happen because we make them happen, fail to do something that prevents something else or someone else makes things happen, not because God makes them happen. There are specific events that God does make happen, but God did not make those planes fly into the Twin Towers, nor did he pick and choose which person was to die or live at Osama Bin Laden's hands.

Some years ago, I was just about to start on a 200 mile trip and was a short distance from the interstate on-ramp when an on-coming car swerved in front of me and crossed my lane. I slammed on the brakes,
missing the car by inches. After the near mis-hap, I continued onto the interstate. I was very upset at the other driver for his stupidity, but realised that because of the short delay, I was NOT where I would have
been had the near mis-hap not happened. I realised that a terrible accident may have been avoided. Coincidence? As for me, I think not.

And some years ago I was driving home from work and for no reason felt antsy and apprehensive the whole drive. A couple blocks from my house I heard a crash and looked up at the rear view mirror to see the car directly behind me had been center punched by another car that ran a red light.

But for a fraction of a second in space/time that would have been me being hit.
