Don't sweat it - I was on the list for about 8 months, then bingo, got an e-mail one day.

I personally think it's "OK" and some things like the site overlay feature* are useful, but I'd only class it as OK for the moment.

I'm used to Webtrends levels of data.

I do not use the conversion tools, though, so I know I'm missing some value - I don't see anything on my sites.

Incidentally, having an active Adwords campaign, IIRC, is a requirement to getting an invite - or speeds the process, or soemthing - maybe the Chef visits you when you have an active campaign - I can't recall.

I do know there was a tie-in between Analytics and Adwords, though.

    * The site overlay feature shows the page of your site you wish to look at, with graphs over each link on the page and data indicating how many users clicked that particular link. Useful for moving links around and trackign performance. Also good for seeing what content users tend to want most.

I've still got a lot of clients on the list. In the meantime you may want to check out the new free "Appetizer" version being offered by ClickTracks.

I do not currently know how it compares to the free version of Google Analytics, but the site overlay concept was theirs so it is worth checking out.

Free Google Analytics are likely to motivate many new features in Web Analytics tools from other vendors. For example, the latest version of ClickTracks Pro has integrated click fraud tracking including the forensic data required to request refunds.

I finally got an invitation code to Google Analytics--and am so far not very impressed with it; one downside is that it's only updated once a day and not in real time. Not to mention the fact that I've not always been a fan of web analytics that doesn't rely on log files.

I'll tell you one thing thats for certain - my weblog tracking and Analytics never even come close to matching numbers. Not even in the same ballparks...

Log files say 1300 page views yesterday, GA says 900-ish... sad

That's expected--it's mostly because of the fact that Google Analytics is using javascript to record the data and not actually your log files (which is much more accurate).

There are a lot of bots out there, though, that don't execute javascript--so that might explain more of the differences.

We could provide some very valuable input by opening up a discussion in the Market Analysis forum about the various Web Analytics programs, how they work, and how difficult they are to set up.

Google giving away Analytics is generating even faster changes from the other Web Analytics developers. The learning curve on these is accelerating.

It is likely that few are using even a fraction of the capabilities of whatever they're currently using and many are just now seeking to implement a tracking solution.

I've been told that Google Analytics is supposedly three hours delayed now instead of updating once every 24 hours. I have not confirmed that yet.

If anyone is really checked out on implementing and using it already I'd love to hear from you.
