Hello everyone I am new to this forum...to be honest I am new at my job! the professional world! the tech field! but I am like the wide-eyed newbie, very excited and motivated about my job and my company! *note that I kept my title and company anonymous

I work for an online company and I am not at all tech savy. When I hear words like SEO, spiders, java, html, adsense, yield manager, etc. I always make a mental note to do research on what it is later. Good thing I work in Sales so all I have to do is regurgitate with passion what the Tech Guy tells me; however, I try to be as knowledgable and up to date as possible on the tech trends.

I'm having some difficulty promoting my company and generating sales. There has to be a faster and more efficient way than cold calling! I am posting ads on free sites like Craigslist, blogging, linking, my company goes to trade shows (NABshow, SES, venture capital) but not too much business yet. My company offers a very unique service/product, first and only out there on the internet, it has limitless potential to grow, but how do I get the word out?

Any advice or feedback would be immensely appreciated. Please pardon my naivety and excitement in joining the professional world.

Have you tried PPC? It is a faster way to generate traffic than SEO.

I should be more clear with my comments...but our company is doing well with traffic and page ranking on the web...we're ranked in the top ten on Alexa for our category...but all that traffic does not result in any sales! Our company is still very new and has very little exposure on the net.

Well... Alexa is not a search engine.

Anyway, so you are ranking high on MSN, Yahoo and Google for all your keywords? Then PPC may not help much.

If your product is a general product that most people want then you may consider running email and SMS campaign. You may also consider to organize some contest related to your product.

Do you have an Affiliate Program? If no, join some good Affiliate Network.

Look at it this way. You can reach one person at a time cold calling or potentially thousands at once using online methods. Obviously, the larger your reach the more potential for gain.

There is no one magic online bullet.

Make a list of the various options and give preference to any similar to what is already working. Prioritize those, research your top 1-3 and pick one. Implement it well until you feel you've tapped much of that potential then move on to the next one.

If you don't have enough background knowledge to feel you have a handle on doing the above find some people who do, explain what your business is and what your goals are and ask for their recommendations.

If several wise people offer the same suggestion you've got a good place to start. If they disagree ask them why they believe their recommendation is stronger than the other recommendations.

Then pick one and commit to doing it correctly. It is not critical that it be "the" one that will give you the most success because you can't usually see that until you have the benefit of hindsight. The key is to pick something and get started.
