Here's an eye opener... We are running out of uranium to power nuclear power plants. So why do we keep building new ones?

...we have already mined the vast majority of Uranium in the United States, and we now only have enough left for around 7.3 years of current usage rates in generating electricity. If politicians think they want to use American taxpayer money to build a lot of new nuclear plants, maybe they should review the facts...

See more information found in this link.

Some scary realities.

Hard to know where the truth lies. Half of what I read says we're going to run out of oil; the other half says there are vast stores under Colorado. Haven't had the time or interest to go check that out.

Vast stores under Colorado? That's a new one.

What I found especially interesting is the remarks about running out of Uranium to power the electric power plants. That was news to me. I figured there was plenty of nuclear power to go around, but that long write-up shedded new light on that idea.

Wow, that's a real eye opener:

See these links on oil reserves in the USA: Great Colorado Oil Rush, U.S. Govt’s Secret Colorado Oil Discovery

The USA certainly has kept that under wraps.

I just got done watching the DVD "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore. If you are lacking insight on the environment problems and their serious consequences, that DVD will further open your eyes. Lots of good info and I recommend that everyone see it at least once in the very near future.

You can see the web site with it here: http://www.climatecrisis.net/

It's crazy how big business (like American Auto Manufacturers and American Oil) has deliberately and many times forced scientist to hide the truth from all of us so they can continue to earn their profits. "It's hard for big business executives to acknowledge the truth when they are paid to ignor it and/or cover it up".

The polar ice caps are melting many times faster now than in any other time in history. Scary stuff. If half of Greenland and half of Antarctica melt, the whole ocean system raises up 20 feet and large parts of land disappear displacing 100's of millions of people. We will see this in the coming 2-3 decades for sure if we as a human race do not yank the environmental titanic of destruction around in a hurry. And of course that just skims over all the info brought out in this DVD.

I never realized how much Al Gore was really involved in education of the environment until today. He knows his stuff. Go rent the DVD "An Inconvenient Truth".

It's possible to fix this horrendous titanic sinking, but before long it's gonna be too late. Can mankind really change their thinking and morals before it's too late? That's the question of the day.

One path to understanding the truth about anything...follow the money. There have been safer and more environmentally friendly solutions like solar and wind energy for decades.

Auto manufacturers are bragging about vehicles getting 40 mpg...40? Why not 80? Or 100? I've driven cars that got almost 40 since 1983.

Major changes are coming one way or another.

An interesting thing that was brought out was that China's standard for car efficiency is quite a bit higher right now on the average than in America. Many/most of our cars are not efficient enough even to be sold in China. In parts of Europe, we can't sell our cars to them because they produce too much crap and waste too much gas.

And yes we have the technology to make better cars. But, big USA oil companies want to keep the cars as they are so that they can supply oil to the rest of the world from USA'a huge oil reserves in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming when other sources run dry.

There are two small businesses (one in Europe and one in Australia) who have developed engines that run on compressed air, each engine running on just a few dollars worth of electricity used to produce the compressed air. See this thread for more details (note last post on 08/31/2006 08:09 am). Instead of paying $30-$50 at the pump for gas, you pay $3 to get your car filled up with air. Even $6 would be a bargain. It's out there. Now we just got to force these auto makers to convert over to these new technologies.

I've got a faster, easier plan. Get someone else to sell them and use viral online marketing, social networking, etc. to get the word out and fuel the demand. The cost of marketing just went down again.

flyingrose, true, very true. Good way to cut costs to market these types of air powered engines.
