Interesting Participation inequality article on who posts and who doesn't in forums like ours.
Summary: In most online communities, 90% of users are lurkers who never contribute, 9% of users contribute a little, and 1% of users account for almost all the action.

That's interesting.
It also holds true with politics and getting certain laws passed that favor special interest groups. Many candidates for office are promoted by a few high powered business persons. Some laws get passed because a few special interest groups (seeking to make money via the laws) push for them, not for the good of the majority, but for the good of the few.
