I am constructing a website at the moment. I want to allow other people to upload their music and video onto my site. Presumable the best file formats for this will be mp3 and mp4 as if i'm correct they are the smallest file sizes.
The problem i have is i need to construct an upload page and don't have a clue where to start. Does anybody know how to do this? of know of a company that can do this? or for a fee would anybody be interested in doing this for me?
This really is a matter of urgency to me so a quick response would be very much appreciated.

Better be careful of the legalities of allow users to post up music they have no rights to share, too. Not saying don't do it - just look into it is all...

your right, but all you need is
mywebsite will remove member submitted content that appears to constitute copyright infringement per the terms and policy set forth in the DMCA [link] and OCILLA [link] acts.
You (the website owner) will need to fill our a designated User Agent form and pay $80.00 to the US Copyright office. State on your website that you are acting as an ISP (internet service provider) and that the person uploading the content maintains ownership and all liability to uploaded content.
Thats all you need.
Why are the social sites in trouble? Because they did not do there due diligence and designate a copyright agent and post the appropriate disclaimers before the copyright issues started.
I got this directly from the US Copyright Office in Washington DC
its that simple

Are you a copyright lawyer by chance?
Things are never "that simple", i say. if it is truly this easy, why hasn't everyone done it?*
*NOTE: Maybe they have - I wouldn't know because I stopped downloading music, etc. years ago...

well, there is a tad more to it, but its covered in the links i provided.
you need a registered copywrite agent
the agent gets the notifications of infringement
agent notifies poster to remove content of question within a certain time period
if content is not removed or copywrite is not validated as free, the USP or website removes content on behalf of the poster.
the posted has 2 weeks to question the violation in writing, the complaintant has to answer and blaa and blaa and blaa
your right, it ain't that easy, but at least there are guide lines and the website is indemnified if they follow the protocol.
if i remember right, its pretty well explained on linkedin
i have checked this out with a copywrite lawyer and the copywrite office.

reading what everyone else has posted has been both very useful and extremely entertaining (if you find other people arguing funny)
