CNBC is reporting a potential deal where NewsCorp might sell Yahoo, "MySpace" in exchange for majority ownership. A Yahoo/MySpace axis would be a major consolidation and would have big implications for other social networks like Facebook and Bebo.

This could be very interesting, anybody here know anything? Any one have a link to the article?

Google might have a viable competitor if they combined myspace and google with their backing.

Google with all of peoples personal details from myspace, pretty scary thought but the data wouldn't be harnessable so I can't see Google going for that deal

Yahoo owning myspace I could imagine, but is myspace really worth a fair chunk of their shares? they have been on a steady downclimb mind so this could turn them around.

If this deal did go through would this mean that Murdock gets to run Yahoo or just have a crap load of shares? Sounds like an interesting deal indeed, wish I had a link to a source sad

I'll keep checking cnbc, interesting is that its all about markeing and targeting advertising. I think they think the user database is very valuable. But... the data is terribly skewed and inaccuate. Myspace does not verify the member registration info, so most people have aliased and misrepresented themselves. Google knows this, but yahoo needs something. I see yahoo as the great counterbalance to google

yahoo :: google
good :: evil
right :: wrong
USA :: russia
ying :: yang

If yahoo falls, what will we compare google to....GOD?

doesn't GOD need the devil to justify good?

argh

when there is light, there is always shadow

If Yahoo does go under (which I doubt now due to a new CEO), a new engine will rise and give Google a good kick in, it may be MSN, it may be Baidu, it could even be Ask, the little search engine that could lol.

Either way, I predict good things for Yahoo, even more so if Murdoch gets behind the wheel

ta da! found a link through Digg http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/19/is-myspace-worth-12-billion/

25% of Yahoo for Myspace seems a bit steep
