I've often thought that SEO should actually be renamed WPO. WPO = Web page optimization. Nobody can really optimize the search engine except for the people who run the engine. What SEO's really do is optimize the page, not the engine. Hence call it WPO instead. Makes more sense, doesn't it?

I second that.
All in favor for changing the SEO terminology to WPO, say "I".

makes more sense, but SEO is stuck in peoples heads and if a new user came here asking about SEO and we went on about WPO, they'd be very confused lol.
It's a nice thing though, will get potential clients going 'whats that!?'

OK, well, ... we do like to corn-fuse people do we not?
SEO = WPO from now on ... motion carried! <smacks hammer on table> I mean: “<smacks trout on table>”

I'll start sending the e-mails now - everyone needs some name changes...quick, who's going to buy up:
wpomoz.com
wpoland.com
wpowatch.com
wpopalooza.com
wpoforums.com
Quietly I'll back you Curt, but I'll deny this post ever occurred with me at the keyboard if it hits the radar!
...and given it's summer, perhaps we could BBQ that trout and enjoy a beer, too...?

SEO has NEVER been an accurate term in my opinion and I even have made that point clear on my website for all to see (since 1998)...
I have an opening statement on the section for SEO as something like:
"Not another SEO company! Nobody can claim to be able to optimize a Search Engine unless they work there?"
However, what we know is indeed all about optimisation of your information and therefore includes understanding your target market to the degree that you understand their understanding of current industry buzz words and include them on your pages! HA! Fun isn't it.

AOB = Any Other Business! Commonly used in corporate meetings
Wikipedia's Description: Any other business (AOB) - allowing a participant to raise another point for discussion.

Curt is right to be called the Search Engine optimization (SEO) to web page optimization (WPO). In the real sense, we optimize the website not the search engine. If you want to suggest a new seo terminology , you add it here.
