I just seem to be full of questions lately.
Google webmaster tools recommends I download Lynx text browser and I found what seems to be a good place to do that at. However I don't understand one part of the directions given to me.
Make a folder on the top level of your C drive called lynx_w32
what is the top level? I never heard of that before in reference to a drive.
Here are the full directions in case you need them to help me out.
Make a folder on the top level of your C drive called lynx_w32
Unzip the contents of the lynx_v283.zip file into that folder.
Make a shortcut to lynx.bat* and place it on your desktop.
Double click the shortcut. Lynx will open with google.com as the home page.

Much Appreciated,

Downloaded the same browser four days ago.
Top level simply means your root directory in which case is C: drive (default in windows).
Reason he's directed you to put everything in C: is because the path set in the lynx.bat to execute the files are all configured to run from C:/lynx_w32
Word of caution though, this browser is completely old school so if you're fond of flashy fonts, colors, images etc; Brace yourself!

thanks former
I think it was suggested by google as a way to see how their robots see the site when they are indexing it - that was my understanding.

Lynx is more of an WPO tool than a browser to use for surfing. Yah know I've never bothered to download it to see what pages look like through it. Maybe I should for curiosity's sake (though I'm fairly sure I know what to expect).
