Often wondered - Is it possible that Google ranks local domains higher, based on geographical location?
For instance, two sites with similar content but different domains:
1. treesap.com
2. treesapcentral.com.au
If a search for tree sap was done in Australia, would treesapcentral.com.au rank higher than treesap.com since it's local and targeted more to them?
And is there any other SE, if any, that does this?

Funnily enough, this very subject has just been discussed in another thread.
If you want to see what the results would look like in Australia, carry out the search in your local version of Google then append &gl=au to the end and hit enter.
You will then get the results as if you were in Australia.
&gl is the filter for geographic location and au is the country code for Australia.

Local Google Searches do favour local sites, either by local TLD or local hosting (most countries don't need both - but there may be exceptions).
