Thoughts & Opinions on ISP capping the amount of usage for their users. huh

In a sense, caps on Internet use are no stranger than the limited number of minutes a cell phone subscriber gets each month. Internet use varies hugely from person to person, and service providers argue that the people who use it the most should pay the most

Broadband providers really get on my nerves with their fake unlimited broadband offers.

Unlimited broadband is subject to a "fair use policy" which means it is not unlimited at all.

I've some fair use policies that restrict the user to 1Gb download per month when they are selling another service restricted to 1GB per month for less.

Makes my blood boil in the same way that Ryannair offer flights for 1 penny then add "charges and taxes" which are their operational costs and profit. People fall for it. I'm fed up with people telling me they got a trip to Spain for 2 pence when I know they paid at least £50.00 all in

Unless the ASA and OfCom are buried by a shitstorm of consumer protest, they will never take action...

ISPs are already getting away with it, Korea, India and I think Australia have a good idea by eliminating ISPs as the government provides the internet so it's free.

I don't know about Korea and Australia when it comes to ISPs, but in India, broadband service providers are plentiful - but most of the service is pathetic. You have a cap if you have "high speed" connectivity and "unlimited usage" mode is throttled into 64kbps.

Even the advertised speed of 8Mbps is in reality little more than 512 kbps.

Wow Prowler, that stinks --> "You have a cap if you have "high speed" connectivity and "unlimited usage" mode is throttled into 64kbps."

Why even have broadband if it's just yielding 64Kbps.

Yes Curt it really stinks - like everything else. wink

In the US I was used to a T1 line. But in India, we have 3 "broadband" connections for redundancy - one offering 2 Mbps (DSL), and the other 2 capped at 64 Kbps (cable) in addition to a USB CDMA for the laptop which rarely delivers anything more than 56 kbps.
