Did a search and found this forum, I think it is just what I need!

Sorry to be so forward in my first post but I need a bit of advice... I am being made redundant from my role as marketing manager, I am currently in the process of redesigning the company's websites as they have several businesses. One has gone live and the other two will be live in the next 2-3 weeks.

I have managed to get both their old and new sites to p1 and 2 of Google within a reasonably short time frame through SEO and have highlighted that without constant monitoring this will suffer over time. There is no one else in the company that understands SEO.

So they have now come back to me, from a redundancy meeting we had where I explained their dilema, with this question,

"could you please detail what you believe is required on an on-going basis regarding SEO/SEM of our websites and how much work you envisage that being".

They are obviously considering a contract, which was one of the options I put forward, but I really don't know what time I put into this on a weekly basis, it happens when I see something that needs to be done and just do it.

To get to the point, how many days per week/month would you spend optimising 3/4 websites to get to and stay at p1 or 2 in G? And at what rate per day would you charge for such a service?

Whew! Sorry for the long post but felt you might need a few details on my situation...

I look forward to being able to contribute to the forum once I get a feel for where my level of knowledge lies.

    Many thanks in advance

It depends on how big the sites are... whether dozens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands or more, pages, and whether the work is purely on content and links or whether stuff needs doing to the underlying CMS running the show.

If they need the work doing, doesn't seem like they have a case for redundancy either; and should they take your list and get someone else in to do the work you have legal redress in your favour.

    Hi Net smile

You explained the situation very well.

    I agree with g1.

Without knowing a lot more ( such as what g1 mentioned ) it is impossible to know what to charge on going....

I will give you this quick example of a client of mine.

I update their web site every 21 days adding about 8 pages of new content, editing about 3 - 5 pages of previous content, doing the web design and SEO work all myself. I charge them 400.00 a month. Their site is about 50 - 60 pages.
However I never tell them I can keep them in the top 1 - 2 or anything. I would not suggest you put that in the "bargain" either - WAY too much can happen with the SE.

Let us know how you make out smile
