I am doing some research tonight and you know how you start off in one area and end up in a whole different ball park lol
well look at this stuff I found -
In the past, I have warned people away from anything and everything Google, because the company's stated intention is to scan everything written by everyone, then use that information for its own purposes. I cannot (yet) verify the following story, but it comes as no surprise to me.
And for heaven's sake, don't believe Google's claims that no individual information will ever be shared. Please keep in mind a similar occurrence in China involving Skype chat logs a short while ago.
Don't use gmail. Don't use Google Toolbar. Search using Scroogle or Alta Vista or Wikipedia or some other search engine(s). Don't use anything of Google. Not now. Not ever.
This link below says Google is going to help the Goverment track the FLUE!!
Have any of you heard about this before?

i see some truth in it (google toolbar gathering info) and about maybe some information that shouldn't be shared but in general whoever wrote this is a bigot :D google is in favor of a free web and in a case in the past refused to give out the names of its users in court, i am not saying google is an angel like MSN *sarcasm* but but fir sure not as bad as the person who wrote this claims

Google is tracking the flu, but not sharing the data with the Government, just notifying them if there's a spike in searches in a particular area.
Also I'm a bit dubious of a company the size of Google with all it's data bt I believe there trying to help. They take all there data to help improve there systems, A/B split testing, click overlays, etc all to see how people use the web and make it a better place. Nothing wrong with that, I do that to make my sites better, am I an evil person that sells all our visitor information? no, I don't believe I am

We can't be certain about that, especially in this day & age of pre-WW3. Governments can choose to throw their weight around, under the guise of "National Securiy" and intercept ANY information they want, without causing suspicion. We only get to hear about it decades later in some best seller  ...am I an evil person that sells all our visitor information? no, I don't believe I am

I heard google was funded by the NSA and CIA to spy on and aggregate data on all of us.

The national governments (note the plural tense there,) have for quite some time been conducting continuous communication/electronic information collections, processing, analysis and reporting. This is nothing new.
Google does not need a gov contract to accomplish their stated goals. Granted, Google may well have/have had gov contacts for search, processing and/or analysis work. But it's a fair bet the gov(s?) have asked Goog to not discuss these matters too much, if in fact Goog ever has/has had such a contract at all.
And so what if Goog helps the Gov track the flu? Good for 'em! Someone wants to gripe that Goog gets a heads up on where the flu (remember, a literally deadly disease!) is vectoring? Oh dear, the Gov might proactively move vaccinations to the exact area where needed, when needed! Oh darn.
Really now, this is just crazy bunk talk. It's a damn good thing that Goog and the Gov are talking about easily communicable diseases. The promise and potential of this whole computer and tech society is actually being used constructively? And people gripe about that?!
On a side bar, Shakespeare also noted that the government read all the mail of his day. (Sorry, I haven't the book at my fingertips to exactly quote it for you.) As for govs taking a looksie into your communications, particularly if you communicate with foreigners, you may enjoy reading "Body of Secrets" by James Bamford.

OK - so MAYBE they are tracking US & the flue ---- I truthfully don't care.
I was curious if it was true.
But I don't do anything I can get in trouble for.. sooo - this tracking is harmless to any of us - right?
The writer of the above quoted article suggest different.
Now I get they are in love with google but... lol

Don't forget the MIB But I don't do anything I can get in trouble for.. sooo - this tracking is harmless to any of us - right?
Don't be surprised to see men with big guns bursting into your living room after you send a gmail that reads"...the president is to die for" when referring to the actual movie, "The President".

If the government(s) have some dealings with Google in this type of fashion, don't be surprised that the government(s) also have dealings with the other big players like Yahoo, MSN, Alexa and other useful Internet Venues as far as data mining goes.
So basically, if you don't want to be tracked, just get off the net entirely and stop your internet connection.
If you aren't doing anything illegal, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. And if they are tracking stuff that actually helps us, then that is good.
FYI: Whenever you see one company being targeted (like google) you gotta wonder if a competitor is spreading stories to hurt their competition. If they can hurt the competition's reputation via provided info, then their own internet services could benefit. Could just be a scheme to quash competition.

i dont agree with that when the feds snoop around my privacy of how its gonna help me if they put up cameras all over inside your rooms in your home for the sake of safety then... there should be a line of how far they can go.

animated3d, I thought it was understood that we weren't talking about "that" level of privacy. Of course we don't want the fed taking pictures of our personal lives.
When the feds track non-invasive data similar to tracking where the flu is spreading, that can be helpful in further prevention of sickness. In fact that kind of tracking isn't even personally identifiable. They were just tracking general locations so as to identify outbreak locations.
