Ok, purchasing another new system. As you know we are behind here in AU. I need opinion on which is the best way to go a 19" LCD monitor or good quality 19" CRT monitor. In my office with 5 workstations we have 3 17" & 2 x 15" monitors only and I want to be able to view "stuff" as "most of the world" views it (which I guess has to include your net savvy boys). But it costs money what do you all think? We do a lot of site review, design development stuff here and although we want to cater for the bottom end we really need to see what the high end sees etc. Also, any opinions/practical experience with the CanoScan D66oU scanner?

Just some thoughts on it...With screen res, keep in mind that the video card will play a large part in how good images/web pages look at high resolutions, on 19in screens For buying excell, I’m don’t know if you are buying over the web or in a store... but, it might be worth you going to a local comp store in your area, where you can view a number of different types of monitors, so that you can see for yourself how good they look. Then you could price the model over the web, for the best price... If you do decide to buy over the internet then buying CRT-based monitors via mail order can be problematic - they’re heavy and costly to ship, and they’re more easily damaged by mishandling during shipping than are most other peripherals. However, flat-panel LCD monitors might be easier to find on the Internet. Because of their greater price, many retail outlets offer a poor selection of these displays. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help…

I've got a 19" CTR and LOVE it.We looked at the LCD screens as well, but since I don't do a lick of print work, it seemed like overkill. Since the web doesn't display super-high resolutions, I don't usually work in them. Now, if you guys also do some print work where high-res is essential, then having an LCD screen would likely be very helpful. JMHO.

We have a LCD, there are some pro's and cons. The big pro is that it is light weight. If you have wireless too you can take it outside, or even camping. The resolution is high enough that it is great for movies. The big con, is you have to look straight at the screen, you can not observe it from multiple angles. In an office this could be a PIA, because you could not use the screen to view with multiple people, well maybe 3-4. Now, the disclaimer...mine is a couple of years old, maybe 3. Toys change in three years, they may be perfect now. If they are DO NOT TELL ME!! I can't afford any new toys at the moment, other then ones for baby.

hmmmm...I like flat screens as well, but find it hard to get colors right on my moms (also a bit older) but I went to PC Club to pick up our new system with my dad on Sunday, I just drooled over the above monitor. Any angle! Ahh it was soo sweet.. actually my dad and I were both drooling.. there was a bigger one as well, 19in I think just as sweet if not a bit more since it was bigger ;P That's the kind of shopping I like.. my dad and I almost got a new laptop he's jealous cuz his is so old it barely works anymore. Man.. now I want a new monitor..

Sony, NEC-Mitsubishi and Samsung have been some of the leaders for quality with CRTs... when it comes to your eyes you shouldn't be compromising too much. The extra cash will be worth it... it will otherwise go into buying pain killers/contacts/prescriptions As for CanoScan I suggest the 670U. I have one sitting right next to me.

How 'bout this? to bad I can't do it here. The price will probably drop by the time I move (as there will be at least 3 new versions!)

well I ended up settling for a 17" LCD as my tech people where going on and on about resolution etc. so I gave up.but I will up grade once things get more cost effective etc. I am with crash! a 68" flat wall/ceiling mounted monitor running a resolution of 5120 x 4096 and a touchpad so you can work in bed! way to go.

I'll stick with my Eizo Flexscan F980: http://www.eizo.com/products/crt/f980/contents.html Only thing that could tempt me away from my baby is the Apple 23" HD: http://www.apple.com/displays/ Nice color, and small footprint -- my Eizo takes up a huge amount of desk space. I'm too nearsighted to do the wall thing.
